Rundle Academy
Grades 4-6 Division
The Grades 4–6 years at Rundle Academy are a time of discovery, growth, and increasing independence. Our program blends strong academic foundations with rich opportunities for exploration, ensuring students are challenged, supported, and inspired every day. Rooted in the Alberta curriculum and elevated through enriched learning experiences, these years are shaped by small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and a culture that celebrates curiosity and character.
A Foundation of Academics, Enrichment, and Exploration

At Rundle Academy, 4-6 students learn the unmodified Alberta curriculum, enriched with music, languages, technology, physical education, and fine arts. Field trips, guest presenters, and artist residencies create a vibrant and engaging school experience. Our elementary program builds strong academic foundations that prepare students for the rigours of our highly ranked high school program. Instruction is tailored to how each student learns best, ensuring every learner is set up for success.
Art and music are part of the curriculum at Rundle Academy elementary. Projects are often based on activities in students’ language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science classes.
In music class, students build a strong foundation for understanding and experiencing the fundamentals of music — rhythm, melody, harmony, expression, and movement. New scales used in different genres and styles of music are introduced.
Technology is intentionally integrated into daily work and across subject areas. Information, study materials, and worksheets are available through Canvas.
Each student has their own iPad, which is loaded with various educational apps and tools. Students use Active Boards, whiteboards, Book Creator, iMovie, Green Screen, and various other apps to create interesting and interactive projects and to share their learning with peers and teachers. Students also have access to a comprehensive digital library.
Digital citizenship and internet safety are emphasized yearly as students learn to create and share work through Gmail and Google Docs.
Expanding Horizons Through Co-Curricular Opportunities

Our 4-6 students co-curricular opportunities are thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and encourage connection beyond the classroom. Whether through athletics, the arts, leadership, or service, students are empowered to explore their interests and uncover new strengths. These experiences nurture personal growth and belonging while enriching the fabric of our school community.
The Rundle Academy Junior Rockies sport development program fosters a love of sport and nurtures the athletic talents of Rundle’s youngest athletes. Students also have the opportunity to participate in non-competitive intramurals.
The extensive co-curricular program at Rundle is offered within and alongside the curriculum. Students participate in various artistic, athletic, character, and intellectual pursuits as part of the well-rounded education at Rundle.

At Rundle Academy, our character education program helps students grow into confident, compassionate, and responsible individuals. Rooted in Rundle’s core values of Be Kind, Be Curious, and Be Well, our approach emphasizes traits that guide students both in and beyond the classroom. Through lessons and daily practice, students develop curiosity, perseverance, gratitude, wellness, kindness, and integrity, building a strong foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth.
Rundle Academy’s elementary program supports character and leadership development with our annual orientation camp, the Roots of Empathy program, Rundle Academy’s 100 Steps to the Summit, Student Ambassador Program, and Kids Helping Kids club.
Outdoor education, field trips, and travel enrich the learning experience and are an extension of Rundle’s academic and co-curricular programs.
To begin the year, students get to know each other during the much-anticipated overnight orientation camp. Throughout the year, students participate in winter activities, join our
Academic Fair, visit the Calgary Zoo, Clay 4 Kids, and Telus Spark and Weaselhead Flats.
The Teachers’ Pet organization comes to our campus to enhance the science program.
Our Outdoor Ed program allows students to participate in unique experiences such as camping, cross-country skiing, dog sledding, and snowshoeing.
At the primary/elementary level, students develop their character and leadership skills through numerous service learning opportunities. Rundle Academy elementary partners with many local programs in the community such as:
- Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids,
- Families and Schools Together program
- Hull Homes Christmas Hamper Program

Beyond the Classroom

At Rundle Academy, we offer a range of services beyond the classroom to support our students and families. From student services and wellness resources to summer camps and community programs, these offerings are designed to meet the diverse needs of our community. By providing meaningful support and opportunities, we help every family feel connected, valued, and prepared for success in all aspects of school life and beyond.
We are expanding Rundle Academy!
As part of our Building Futures campaign that has been fundraising to help expand and transform the campus, we are beginning to build our brand new Rundle Academy, the first phase of which is slated to open in September 2026!
This will be innovative education space that will match the excellence and potential of the students who learn here. Our intentional design will create a space that reflects the magic and innovation happening in our classrooms, while expanding our facilities by adding 40,000 square feet for students to learn and grow.
This transformation opens our doors to welcome 150 more bright minds to our school, offering greater opportunities through tailor-made spaces that enhance academics, athletics, and wellness options. In this supportive environment, we will continue to encourage differentiated learning, fostering a nurturing and innovative atmosphere.

Student Services provides academic guidance, wellness support, and social and emotional counselling to ensure each student is well-supported in all areas of their life. This work aligns with the mission at Rundle to help students discover their potential and prepare them for an ever-changing world.
Rundle Academy learning strategists support students who require additional support with remediation, strategy development, or explicit accommodation training. Requests for this support are initiated by the teacher and the student services team determines the length of support and availability based on the student’s need.
