Rundle Academy
Grades 4–6 Program
Rundle’s programs adheres to Alberta curriculum standards and also embraces the value of differentiated and enriched learning for all students. An energetic and dedicated team of educators provides a dynamic and challenging program fostering the intellectual, social, and personal development of all young students.
Small classroom environments engage students in their learning, provide more meaningful classroom discussion and develop a closer connection to their teachers committed to their academic and personal success.
Students in grades 4-6 are taught the demanding Alberta academic curriculum which is balanced and further enriched with a variety of experiences in music, languages, technology, physical education and fine arts. Field trips, guest presenters, and artist residencies contribute to a busy and fulfilling school life for our students.
Educational foundations are built through the younger grades so that our students are prepared for the rigours of our high school program, which has consistently been ranked as one of the top schools in Alberta.
The Rundle Academy Junior Rockies Sport Development Program fosters a love of sport and nurtures the athletic talents of Rundle’s youngest athletes. Students also have the opportunity to participate in non-competitive intramurals.
Rundle Academy’s Elementary program supports character and leadership development with our annual orientation camp, the Roots of Empathy program, Rundle Academy’s 100 Steps to the Summit, Student Ambassador Program, and Kids Helping Kids club.

Art and music are part of the curriculum at Rundle Academy Elementary. Projects are often based on activities in students’ Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science classes.
In music class, students build a strong foundation for understanding and experiencing the fundamentals of music — rhythm, melody, harmony, expression, and movement. New scales used in different genres and styles of music are introduced.
Technology is intentionally integrated into daily work and across subject areas. Information, study materials, and worksheets are available through Canvas.
Each student has their own iPad, which is loaded with various educational apps and tools. Students use Active Boards, whiteboards, Book Creator, iMovie, Green Screen, and various other apps to create interesting and interactive projects and to share their learning with peers and teachers. Students also have access to a comprehensive digital library.
Digital citizenship and internet safety are emphasized yearly as students learn to create and share work through Gmail and Google Docs.
Outdoor education, field trips, and travel enrich the learning experience and are an extension of Rundle’s academic and extracurricular programs.
To begin the year, students get to know each other during the much-anticipated overnight orientation camp. Throughout the year, students participate in winter activities, join our
Academic Fair, visit the Calgary Zoo, Clay 4 Kids, and Telus Spark and Weaselhead Flats.
The Teachers’ Pet organization comes to our campus to enhance the Science program.
Our Outdoor Ed program allows students to participate in unique experiences such as camping, cross-country skiing, dog sledding, and snowshoeing.
At the primary/elementary level, students develop their character and leadership skills through numerous service learning opportunities. Rundle Academy Elementary partners with many local programs in the community such as:
- Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids,
- Families and Schools Together program
- Hull Homes Christmas Hamper Program
- Kids’ Helping Kids
- Seniors Secret Service
Student Services provides academic guidance, wellness support, and social and emotional counselling to ensure each student is well-supported in all areas of their life. This work aligns with the mission at Rundle to help students discover their potential and prepare them for an ever-changing world.
Rundle Academy learning strategists support students who require additional support with remediation, strategy development, or explicit accommodation training. Requests for this support are initiated by the teacher and the student services team determines the length of support and availability based on the student’s need.
